Returning from an early run on the beach, Jenny Best jumps into the pool at her home in Malibu, California. Her sun-streaked hair tangled with salt, she dives under the water and then plops down on a lounge chair to dry off. The morning air is thick with heat, the California sun already living up to its reputation. Before her is the Pacific Ocean, so dazzling blue it stretches out into infinity.
In a beach town famous for its flip flops, cut-off shorts and surf boards tucked under taut arms, Jenny’s home fits right in. The ranch-style house — located at the top of a hill — is a study in easy living. The extensive deck enveloping the front of the house is set with comfortable rattan chairs and a long table for entertaining. Inside, Jenny, the co-owner of Zouk Living, has decorated with an array of finds from her travels across the globe. Rugs from Morocco are paired with a custom-built purple couch, antique art from Sweden, candelabras from the Rosebowl Flea market and handmade baskets from India. The mishmash of styles blends together effortlessly, creating a home that is made for sandy toes and sunset dinner parties. • Ulrica Wihlborg
